Diamonds: identify the framework before trusting the certificate

KPCS applies to rough-diamond trade within its framework; it should not be described as a universal “blood certificate”.

First distinction: rough or polished

Rough diamonds

Assess Kimberley Process Certification Scheme requirements, Participant status, certificate, export/import route and sealed shipment rules where applicable.

Polished diamonds

Do not assume KPCS applies in the same way. Assess customs, provenance, responsible sourcing, sanctions and commercial/laboratory documentation.

“Blood certificate” is not a universal legal certificate

Use the actual legal/certification framework and identify the issuing authority, shipment and scope. For rough diamonds, KPCS is the relevant certification framework where applicable.
